Kama Sutra The Art Of Making Love

The Kama Sutra is an ancient Indian Hindu text widely considered to be the standard work on human sexual behavior. A portion of the work consists of practical advice on sexual intercourse. It is largely in prose, with many inserted anustubh poetry verses. "Kāma" which is one of the three goals of Hindu life, means sensual or sexual pleasure, and "sūtra" literally means a thread or line that holds things together, and more metaphorically refers to an aphorism (or line, rule, formula), or a collection of such aphorisms in the form of a manual.

The Seven Ages of Man

Seven Ages of Man is from the romantic comedy "As You Like It", written by William Shakespeare. It is set in the forest of Arden, where the senior Duke lives in exile with a band of loyal courtiers. These lines are spoken by one of the characters, Jaques, who is given to a lot of philosophizing. Through a series of deft strokes , he etches a realistic picture of the different phases of a man's life. However, his view of the seven ages in the life of man is by no means comprehensive or impartial. Here,Jaques makes a rather conventional comparison between the different stages of a man's life and the acts of a play.

The Seven Sleepers

This story appears to be primarily a Christian story as it also has variations in the Muslim, Arabic, Scandinavian, German, Hungarian, and Welsh mythology. The basic story goes that during the time of the Roman emperor Decius, around 250 AD, seven young men were accused of Christianity. They were given some time to recant their faith, but instead gave their worldly goods to the poor and retired to a mountain to pray, where they fell asleep. The emperor, seeing that their attitude towards paganism had not improved, ordered the mouth of the cave to be sealed.

Jack of the Lantern

An old Irish folk tale tells of Stingy Jack, a lazy yet shrewd farmer who uses a cross to trap the Devil. The story goes that when Jack met the Devil, who claimed it was time for him to die, Jack stalled his death by tempting the Devil with a chance to bedevil the church-going villagers. Jack told the Devil to turn into a coin with which he would pay for goods from the village (the Devil could take on any shape he wanted); later, when the coin/Devil disappeared, the Christian villagers would fight over who had stolen it.

Forbidden Love

According to Greek mythology the love affair between Helen and Paris was the cause of the Trojan War. Helen was the daughter of Zeus and Leda and the wife of Menelaus, king of Sparta. Paris (also known as Alexander), was the son of Priam, king of Troy and appears in a number of Greek myths. In Homer's Iliad Paris kidnaps Helen, however in the epic movie Troy, they conspire together to smuggle her out of Sparta. I think that reflects the values of the times. 28 Centuries ago women were not asked they were just taken as property. Today we like to at least pretend that we ask.Continue reading
